TRANSPORT COORDINATOR
 
 

Fruitways is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join our Logistics Team as a Transport Coordinator. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all transport and logistics activities within our fruit export operations. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient, timely, and cost-effective movement of fresh produce from our packing facilities to local and export destinations —while upholding international standards for quality and food safety.


Based at our Marketing Office in Somerset West, and reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Transport Coordinator will play a vital role in optimizing transport routes, coordinating resources, and fostering strong relationships with logistics partners and service providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Control transport plans for fruit collection and delivery to container terminals
  • Optimize routes and loading capacities
  • Coordinate with internal departments for timely transport availability
  • Monitor orders and execute against logistics loading plan
  • Monitor packing operations’ pallet capacities and arrange for off-site storage where needed
  • Oversee operations relating to 3PL providers, transporters, and coldstores
  • Negotiate rates and monitor service performance
  • Oversee documentation and maintain transport/storage records
  • Report on costs and help identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Recommend technologies to improve efficiency and communication
  • Resolve transport issues and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate logistics for local market sales
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification or diploma in Logistics/Supply Chain with 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet set deadlines while maintaining attention to detail throughout.
  • Ability to take initiative and operate independently
  • Effective team player
  • Capable of adapting comfortably to a rapidly changing work environment
  • Comfortable working in an open-plan office
  • Computer literacy and professional written and verbal communication skills in both English and Afrikaans.
  • Knowledge of QX or another fruit operational system
